I absolutely love studying the Cosmic Law of Attraction. However, I do not believe that the watered-down version that has been popularized by "The Secret" movie holds anything but disappointment for those who believe its teaching are the be-all/end-all authority on the Law. In this section I will introduce you to the science behind the power of the Cosmic Law of Attraction and provide you with tools that you can use to harness this power and begin making real changes in your life. Since I published this introductory page it has quickly become the most visited page on this site. I'll be adding more as quickly as is possible so if you're here to get the "complete story" on the LOA I encourage you to subscribe to this site using the RSS buttons to the left. That way you'l never miss a post!

Cosmic Law of Attraction

What would a web site devoted to personal growth be without a section on (drum roll, please) The Cosmic Law of Attraction! The Law of Attraction has introduced legions of nay-sayers the world of self help much like Julia Childs introduced French cooking to here-to-for stodgy meat-and-taters lovers. Suddenly, people who would no more pick up a copy of "Think and Grow Rich" than they would a copy of "The Geriatric Hustler" magazine are chanting the mystical mantra, "Ask! Believe! Receive!"

My wife isn't normally swayed by fad, nor is she into personal growth topics and New Age mumbo-jumbo.

She's very happy with who she is and what she does for a living, and rightfully so; she's very good at what she does. But at the urging of a trusted colleague she brought home a copy of "The Secret" and plugged it into the DVD player. I joined her of course, skeptical on one hand ("been there/heard that") but on the other, eager to see if I could divine that one little bit of information I'm always looking for that will reveal to me the missing ingredient that will finally allow me to begin living the life of my dreams.

Despite my initial cynicism I became interested in the presentation of the Cosmic Law of Attraction and even took the time to take a few notes as I watched the parade of self-help gurus; "This is good," I thought, "I'm picking up a new idea or two." I went to bed excited about what I'd seen and heard and anxious to review my notes and research the LOA further.

lawofattractionUpon waking I reviewed my notes and later, in the sober light free of the effects of pre-dinner cocktails, watched "The Secret" again. I was taken by two things; first was the obvious truth of some of the material presented. And second was the dearth of crap I had to sort through to find it. It was like learning the Western musical scale at the hands of Julie Andrews; "Doe, a deer, a female deer, Ray, a drop of golden sun…" However…

While enjoying "pre-dinner cocktails" with my wife a few evenings later I revealed my "take" on the Cosmic Law of Attraction to her.

 I'd set aside the Hollywood Epic nature of the production and come to realize that it's major premise, that our thoughts create our reality, had constructed my life. When in college my wife (of 30+ years now!) and I had dreamed of living in an old farmhouse with some acreage and room for dogs, cats and horses. We'd moved from that place 2 years prior but had spent almost 20 years there. And we'd moved back into the same place save the old farmhouse; our current home sat on 8 private acres, had Delta faucets, recessed lighting and a basement with real floors rather than packed earth. But the animals were still with us.

We were middle class, which is what I assumed I would be;

...not rich, not poor, just middle of the road. My wife saw herself an educator and she was; I assumed I'd make my living in the world of business and despite hating it, I was. My health was good thanks to a little exercise now and then, I was not fat and our combined income, though far from extraordinary, was in the 90 percentile for families in the US—middle class, just as I'd imagined. "I wish I'd have dreamed bigger," I told her.

I had to admit, that despite no scientific proof of its effectiveness there was overwhelming circumstantial evidence to support the premise of the Cosmic Law of Attraction. On the following Saturday I thought I'd give it the skeptic's test. "Universe, I'm asking to sell 3 cars today!" That doesn't happen very often, by the way. As I drove home that evening I said to myself "I wish I'd have asked for 4!" But despite another powerful piece of unscientific evidence to support the LOA I knew that my elevated attitude and blind luck had more to do with my success than any Universal law.

Does the Cosmic Law of Attraction work?

cosmic law of attractionSometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. It's a tool to help you shape your life and like any tool you have to know how to use it to get the most from it. Your life is a canvas and the LOA is a brush. You can use it to create anything you want providing you know its strengths and limitations. You can't expect a paint bush to drive a nail and you wouldn't choose a hammer to paint a landscape. Don't expect to use the LOA to extract revenge on a foe or win the lottery for you. You'll need brass knuckles for the first and blind luck for the second.

In this section I will provide you with "The Law of Attraction User's Manual." We will examine each of the steps in detail and provide you with practical exercises to help you understand and harness the power of The Cosmic Law of Attraction. I will approach this discourse with my usual respect and lack thereof; that is, I will sing the praises of the teachers who brought me to my deep understanding of The Law and poke fun of those who promote it as if it could be bottled and sold as snake oil. I'm looking forward to both…
