Self Esteem; A Critical Component of Your Personal Growth
***z-headeradsense.shtml***
Positive self esteem is a
critical component of a well-stocked personal growth arsenal. The
anger, hate and guilt that haunted Rudy Krause’s mind were
effects caused by both his relationship with Doris and his relationship
with himself. They, however, became causes themselves, and their effect
was Rudy’s ultimate roadblock, his low self image. How
important is our own reflection in the mirror? Nathaniel Branden,*
author of “The Six Pillars of Self Esteem”, sums it
up this way:
“Of all the
judgments we pass in life, none is as important as the one we pass on
ourselves.”
And oftentimes that judgment is overly harsh, inaccurate or worse,
swept under a rug and accepted as a reality that cannot be changed.
But like many other afflictions, poor self image can be diagnosed and
treated. In this section we will examine this critical element of your
growth and answer these questions:
- What is self esteem?
- Why is it important?
- What are its symptoms?
- How can I improve it?
In addition, I will give you a questionaire to help you evaluate your
self image and some exercises for helping you to boost your self
esteem.
*Nathaniel Branden and "The Six Pillars of Self Estem" have been my
mentors and guides as I attempted to learn about and subsequently heal
my own battered self image. I gratefully thank and acknowledge Dr.
Branden for his valuable assistance in helping me overcome this
crippling malady.
